Production the plant for tequila and mezcal is promoted and supported in Guanajuato
The agave yields two distilled drinks in Guanajuato: Tequila and Mezcal, two of the most valued beverages in the world
For the second time, the State Comitee of the System Product Agave-Tequila had its congress “From the Agave to your Table” in Romita, Guanajuato.
The goal of this congress is to strengthen trade alliances through the purchase-sale of supplies for the productive chain of the tequila through this event that reunites hundreds of producers from the different States where the agave is produced.
“We adapt to the new technologies through the presence and video conferences in the events that can be enjoyed behind the screen, a new modality that reflects the will to work in this productive sector”, noted Jose Francisco Gutierrez Michel, the Secretary of Rural and Agro Foods Development.
All wanted to be part
In a hybrid format, both presential and on digital, the event was started and all had a participation, producers, exhibitors and there were also tastings of the distilled beverages.
Virtually, there were some conferences the webinar type with topics of interest in the tequila industry.
The Mayor of Romita was at the event as well as the President of the State Commitee of Agave-Tequila Product Guanajuato A.C., Mr. Alejandro Villaseñor Segundo.
Production of the distilled
The State Commitee of Agave-Tequila Product Guanajuato A.C. represents 54 producers with 1,500 hectareas planted with agave in Guanajuato.
In Mexico there are five States that can legally produce tequila: Jalisco, Michoacan, Nayarit, Tamaulipas and Guanajuato.
Two certificates of origin
In production of agave, Guanajuato has two certificates of origin: Tequila and Mezcal.
In the certificate of originin of Tequila, seven municipalities in the State are recognized for their production: Abasolo, Cueramaro, Huanimaro, Manuel Doblado, Penjamo, Romita and San Francisco del Rincon.
For the production of the blue agave, which is the one used for tequila, there are 36 thousand hectareas distributed in the 7 municipalities included in the certificate of origin.
Designed in the certificate of origin of mezcal are San Luis de la Paz and San Felipe.
“This is a work where all are involved, the State, Municipalities and the Association, and we are showing that we do great things that are projected and that reflect the greatness of our fields”, said Gutierrez Michel, the Secretary.
